We are located in the Science and Engineering Building (SEB), lab 4.194. This state of the art building was completed in June 2020.
Equipment and Instrumentation
The following equipment and instrumentation is available in our lab:
Partica LA-960 Laser Scattering Particle Size Distribution Analyzer (HORIBA)
Particle and droplet size measurements from a few tens of nanometers up to the millimeter range. It can measure low viscosity samples, pastes and dry powders.
1260 Infinity II LC System (Agilent)
HPLC with quaternary pumps, UV-vis multiple wavelength detector (MWD) from 190 to 950 nm, refractive index detector (RID), and multicolumn column heater. Vial sampler has capacity for up to 132 vials (2 mL) or up to 36 vials (6 mL).
DSA100 HP Drop Shape Analyzer with High Pressure Chamber (KRUSS)
Semi-automatic measurements of contact angle, surface tension, interfacial tension and interfacial elasticity at ambient conditions, or at elevated temperatures and pressures. Includes a high pressure chamber with a maximum pressure of 689 bar (10,000 psi) and temperature control up to 200°C. Interfacial elasticity measurements are done with an oscillating drop module (ODM).
K100 Force Tensiometer with Washburn Method Accessories (KRUSS)
Contact angle, surface tension, interfacial tension and critical micelle concentration measurements using force tensiometry. The Washburn method accessories allow contact angle measurements of powders and porous materials.
Compound Microscope (Nikon) with Capillary Heating Stage (Linkam)
Microscope includes polarizers and lenses from 5x up to 50x, with a 10x eyepiece. The capillary stage allows imaging at high pressure and temperature as a standalone stage or connected to a flow system. 
Hassler Type Core Holder – RCH Series (Core Laboratories)
Core holder for 1″ and 1.5″ rock core diameters with lengths up to 4″. Stands a maximum working pressure of 345 bar (5,000 psi) and a maximum temperature of 150°C. 
FreeZone® 4.5L Benchtop Freeze Dryers (Labconco®)
Includes clear corrosion resistant 8-port drying chamber and product shelve.
Centrifuge 5804 R (Eppendorf®)
Refrigerated centrifuge with swing buckett and fixed angle rotors.
