The ultimate goal of the\u00a0BioEnergy And Water for Agriculture Research and Education (BE AWARE) Network<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0is to increase the minority participation in pursuing\u00a0advanced degrees in STEAM\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>and attain a diverse USDA-ready highly trained and skillful workforce\u00a0with a strong pragmatic, experimental, analytical and computational background as well as scientific literacy in BE AWARE<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

A fellowship program is created to attract and support undergraduate and graduate students from underrepresented groups enrolled at\u00a0The University of Texas – San Antonio (UTSA), The University of Texas – Pan American (UTPA) and the University of Puerto Rico \u2013 Mayaguez (UPRM)<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0to prepare them for careers related to the food, agricultural, and natural resources. In addition, our bridging arrangements with\u00a0five Alamo Community Colleges<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0will provide us with a pool of talented underserved 2-year community college students and facilitate that these students transition to a 4-year degree. Moreover, B.S. and M.S. students from UTPA and UPRM will be encouraged to pursue doctoral degrees at UTSA.<\/p>\n

This project will provide students with summer internships and USDA Career Days to inform them of USDA-related careers in the public and private sectors.
