{"id":19,"date":"2017-07-07T20:21:08","date_gmt":"2017-07-07T20:21:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/utsaengineer.wpengine.com\/faculty-page-example\/?page_id=19"},"modified":"2017-08-18T14:55:43","modified_gmt":"2017-08-18T19:55:43","slug":"facility","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/ceid.utsa.edu\/mshadaram\/facility\/","title":{"rendered":"Facility"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Laboratory<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering has thirteen <img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-137\" src=\"http:\/\/utsaengineer.wpengine.com\/mshadaram\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/32\/2017\/07\/LabEquip-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ceid.utsa.edu\/mshadaram\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/32\/2017\/07\/LabEquip-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ceid.utsa.edu\/mshadaram\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/32\/2017\/07\/LabEquip-160x107.jpg 160w, https:\/\/ceid.utsa.edu\/mshadaram\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/32\/2017\/07\/LabEquip.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>research laboratories, each with an average area of 2,000 square feet.\u00a0 Two main communications laboratories, the Fiber Optic Research Laboratory and Software Communications and Navigation System Laboratory, are used for student activities. Dr. Shadaram\u2019s Fiber Optic Research Laboratory has several laser transmitters, RF and optical modulators, optical amplifiers, a 3 GHz spectrum analyzer, several low-hi frequency oscillators, more than 30 km of fiber optic links, several power supplies and numerous optical and RF devices.\u00a0 The laboratory also has its own computer network with seven workstations. Students have access to several simulation packages such as VPI Virtual Photonic, Matlab and Pspice.\u00a0 Dr. Akopian\u2019s Software Communications and Navigation Systems Laboratory has various wireless system development boards, RF-Front ends, a wireless network testbed, positioning tools and receivers, six workstations and two servers.\u00a0 The REU participants will utilize the lab space for their experiments and simulations.\u00a0 They will use the individual cubicles and desks, equipped with PCs, for drafting their reports, presentations and private meetings with their mentors.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Computer<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The research laboratories used for telecommunications are well equipped with network of personal computers loaded with all necessary software packages (VPI, MATLAB, PSPICE, etc.).\u00a0 In addition to the research laboratories computing facilities, resources are exclusively available to the students enrolled in the College of Engineering.\u00a0 The Engineering computing facilities include PC lecture room, CAD lecture\/lab, and several PC Laboratories (more than 100 Dell computers).\u00a0 Computers and data acquisition systems are also available at many other laboratories in the College. \u00a0\u00a0Basic application software (word processing, spreadsheet, etc.) are available at all university-wide computer facilities.\u00a0\u00a0 Some computational software (e.g., MATLAB, LabView, etc.) are also available in the college computation facilities<\/p>\n<p><strong>Equipment in <\/strong><strong>Fiber Optic Research Laboratory: <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>National Instruments Embedded Controller,<\/li>\n<li>Quiet, modular 8-slot chassis for flexible lab instrumentation<\/li>\n<li>3.0 GHz Pentium Embedded Controller for PXI<\/li>\n<li>PXI and CompactPCI specifications compliance<\/li>\n<li>Graphical programming with LabVIEW The National Instruments PXI-1042Q\/8196 Academic<\/li>\n<li>Ando Tunable Laser Sources<\/li>\n<li>National Instrument shielded connector block for M series<\/li>\n<li>Data aquisation devices.<\/li>\n<li>Advantest Modulation Spectrum Analyzer<\/li>\n<li>ST Series Smart Table &#8211; Optical Bench<\/li>\n<li>USB interface<\/li>\n<li>Helium Neon Lasers<\/li>\n<li>Erbium Doped Fiber Amplifier<\/li>\n<li>Newport 4&#215;8 optical table<\/li>\n<li>Numerous optical and RF devices and connectors<\/li>\n<li>Several Fiber Bragg Grating devices<\/li>\n<li>Optical power meters<\/li>\n<li>Wavelength Detector<\/li>\n<li>Fiber preparation kits<\/li>\n<li>More than 30 km of single mode optical fibers<\/li>\n<li>VPItransmissionMaker\u2122 WDM<\/li>\n<li>VPIcomponentMaker\u2122 Optical Amplifiers<\/li>\n<li>VPIcomponentMaker\u2122 Active Photonics<\/li>\n<li>VPItransmissionMaker\u2122 Cable Access<\/li>\n<li>6 Dell Desktops<\/li>\n<li>Dell Precision 380 Workstation<\/li>\n<li>2 Dell Laser Printers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Laboratory \u00a0The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering has thirteen research laboratories, each with an average area of 2,000 square feet.\u00a0 Two main communications laboratories, the Fiber Optic Research Laboratory and Software Communications and Navigation System Laboratory, are used for student activities.
