Undergraduate-level Courses

CSM 2113. Construction Materials and Methods: Introduction to materials, methods, equipment, and sequences of the construction process including structural elements, components, and assemblies.

CSM 2143. Construction Materials and Testing: Analysis of materials and methods used in the design and construction process with a particular emphasis on quality control, quality assurance, and testing including soils, concrete, steel, masonry, and wood.

CSM 4623. Construction Safety: Development and management of safety programs, worker’s compensation, OSHA compliance, safety policies, standards, and record keeping.

Graduate-level Courses

CSM 5413. Advanced Topics in Construction Systems: The management of the construction process pertaining to large, complex, and unique buildings. The management of sustainable construction, adaptive use of existing buildings, and historic preservation projects will be included.

CSM 5433. Construction Safety Planning and Management: Current construction safety and health issues. Development of site-specific plans and methodology to provide hazard reduction on job sites.

Introduction to Construction Engineering ​CE 366 (Undergraduate Students): Applies engineering economic principles to construction and engineering problems; construction management processes and methods in plannings, scheduling and monitoring engineering projects.

Geotechnical Engineering ​CE 340 ​(Undergraduate Students): Introduces topics of static and dynamic interaction of soil and water; theories of stress distribution, consolidation, strength and failures and stability of soil structures.

Vertical Construction Methods CE 462/562 (Undergraduate and Graduate Students): ​Introduces topics of vertical construction equipment and methods, design of vertical construction systems and construction operation analysis and management processes.

Construction Cost Estimating CE 463/563 (Undergraduate and Graduate Students): ​Addresses the estimating and cost control function from conceptual planning through project execution. Topics include productivity analysis, organization of estimates, cost forecasting, estimating tools and techniques, contingency planning, and relationship to contract types and project execution strategies.

Safety Engineering ​CE 464/564 ​(Undergraduate and Graduate Students): Introduces topics of safety management and accident prevention, including state and federal laws related to general and construction projects. Topics include accident theories, safety regulations, hazards and their control, human behavior and safety in safety engineering.
