June 24, 2017. Unmanned Systems Lab organized annual group picnic.

May 2017. Unmanned Systems Lab hosted visitors from NASA and Texas State Office of the Governor.

April 24, 2017. Unmanned Systems Lab hosted visitors from UT System and demonstrated the in-house research to the guests.

March 28, 2017. Unmanned Systems Lab hosted high-school students from local communities.

March 23, 2017. Unmanned Systems Lab hosted visitors from the Army Research Lab and demonstrated the in-house research and facilities to the guests.

March 9, 2017. Unmanned Systems Lab conducted outreach activities to Hoffman Elementary School. Students in the lab presented fundamental knowledge of unmanned systems and taught kids how to make paper planes.

February 28, 2017. Unmanned Systems Lab hosted visitors from the Monterrey Tech, Mexico and demonstrated the in-house research and facilities to the guests.

The IEEE Central Texas Section Joint SMC-AES Chapter meet

The IEEE Central Texas Section Joint SMC-AES Chapter met on November 14, 2016 at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) Unmanned Systems Lab. Dr. Yongcan Cao provided a technical presentation on his primary research focus in developing cooperative multiple unmanned systems. These include control and coordination of multiple dynamic systems, network issues associated with communications and cooperative sensing, and development of architectures for unmanned vehicles. Following the technical presentation, the group moved to the lab for demonstrations of a single quadcopter drone performing waypoint following and two drones performing leader-follower flight maneuvers. Attendees were also offered an opportunity to manually fly the drones via joystick control. The group returned to the meeting room for discussions while enjoying pizza provided by the chapter. During a short business meeting, the chapter elected officers for the 2016-2017 term. All current officers were re-elected to serve a second term. Walt Downing will serve as chapter chair, Sos Agaian will serve as chapter vice-chair, and Nils Smith will serve as secretary/treasurer.
